EM stands for earthmoving. Wheel loaders, dumpers, graders and mobile excavators cover few kilometres, but operate under loads and on surfaces that would destroy any road tyre within days. The tyres are correspondingly expensive — and the difference between a suitable and an unsuitable choice is correspondingly great.

L-classes and TKPH — a brief explanation
Two key figures determine almost everything. The L-class describes the tread depth and construction type, whilst the TKPH rating indicates how much load the tyre can carry over what distance before it overheats.
- L2 is the standard tread pattern for mixed-use applications, offering a good balance between traction and wear resistance.
- L3 has a deeper self-cleaning action and works on soft, wet material.
- The L5 offers the deepest tread depth for rock and sharp gravel — slow, but extremely durable.
- The TKPH value is calculated from the average wheel load and average speed. If this value is exceeded, the tyre will disintegrate from the inside long before the tread is worn down.
Standstill is the largest item
With large machines, it is not the tyres that cost money, but the day the machine is out of action. That is why our field service team and the manufacturers’ experts work together to support you, and why we carry out fitting using our service vans directly on site rather than in the yard. We also stock retreaded EM tyres.
